What you gonna do when ‘Assault Attack’ runs wild on you?
Popular multi-sport veteran Tinnakorn “Tangmo” Sirrikul is turning his attentions to the wrestling ring in what would be the realisation of a childhood dream – and a nightmare for anyone unfortunate enough to lock up with the 135kg powerhouse.
Big, strong, charismatic and a natural showman, Tangmo would appear to be the perfect fit for the glamour, hyperbole and hard-hitting action of pro wrestling.
The native of Pathum Thani, Thailand, also brings legit fighting credentials to the table, following an extensive career that has encompassed six combat sports and dozens of bout across almost a decade.
21 seconds that confirmed a legend
The self-proclaimed “Assault Attack” commands a cult following both online and at the ticket desk, with his presence on any fight card guaranteed to attract attention.
He is also well versed in the art of entertaining crowds, whether cutting a promo, coining catchphrases, serving as an MC, or revelling in a spectacular entrance.
Not to mention the don’t-blink nature of his contests. Tangmo’s fights, in whatever format, tend to be fast and furious affairs.
This was never more evident than the night Tangmo turned back the much-anticipated challenge of Tyson Dewees at Dogfights Boxing & MMA in just 21 seconds, his opening barrage taking out his hulking adversary in scenes that not only went immediately viral but which even ended up on Fox Sports.
Natural evolution towards sports-entertainment
That sensational knockout created a legend of a man whose name was already well known on the independent MMA circuit, and catapulted him into a range of new opportunities.
Tangmo – which means “watermelon” in Thai – was the obvious choice when the bizarre brand known as Fight Circus was born.
Seeking to merge the carnival appeal of wrestling’s gimmick matches with the unpredictability of real sport, Fight Circus is a curious and can’t-miss promotion that inevitably called upon the sports-entertainment services of “Assault Attack”.
But after his second appearance there, promoter Jon Nutt suggested a new nickname – “The Bangkok Brawler” – in homage to one of wrestling’s most popular and versatile journeymen, Steve Lombardi, the Brooklyn Brawler.
It makes perfect sense. Tangmo brings the perfect blend of fun and danger, combined with the invaluable appeal of a big fan following.
Wrestling promoters would be well advised to take notice.
“If you want some, come get some!” says the big man.
“What you’ll get, if you’re brave enough, is what you deserve. And what you deserve is this…
“THIS. IS. TANGMO!”
